Kicker Anyone?...

Kicker anyone?

Get Ready: Matthew 6:33 33 But (A)seek first (B)the kingdom of God and his righteousness, (C)and all these things will be added to you.

Get Set:  Lord help us keep our focus on the right target….You.  When our relationship with you is right, everything else is in order also.  Help us to pursue you and to “aim straight” in life and coaching.

Coach:   Can you imagine being the kicker for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in their OT loss to the Jets?  He had the chance to win the game with the Jets twice.  Not once, but twice.  You have to feel or the guy a little!

How would you like to be the kicker?  There is no way I want that job!  Everyone in stadium has their eyes on you as you line up to kick that odd shaped ball through the uprights, at a distance usually greater than 25 yards, with 11 guys on the other side trying to stop you.  If you miscalculate in the slightest it can result in a miss. Think about the wind, the holder, the snap, the grass, etc.  That is a tough job, but a critical one.

The kicker, like us, needs to make sure his aim is true.  The guys on the other side are Satan and his band of demons.  The people in the stands are people who see us daily.   What is at stake you ask?  The least little miscalculation and you miss it all – Heaven.  Seek the kingdom of God daily and you will not miss the mark.  The loss is far greater than just a game, it is eternal life.  Check your aim.  Go get’em for Jesus!

My Position

Get Ready: 1 Corinthians 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Get Set: Lord help us to serve you and others before ourselves. We are such selfish creatures by nature, but you tells us that greater is He that is in us, than he who is in the World!Change our hearts and desires that they may glorify You.

Coach: Somewhere along the way I got the crazy idea to volunteer coach somewith our Middle School in Dodge County. Wow is that different from High School! I have learned so much in a short time span. You have to be very basic and constantly stay on the fundamentals or you will loose them. Shoot, sometimes they have trouble dressing! There are 2 things that stick out to me in this: (1) I am there to help serve and minister to these boys and coaches. Whether I am the FCA guy or a coach, my perspective has to be right. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians, “whatever you do, do all for the glory of God”.

(2) Lineman are the essence of the game. As I coach my linemen, I realize that they are to be a servant. They don’t get the glory, their names in the paper very much, and very few pats on the back, but you let them miss a block and everyone knows it. Without them, it doesn’t work. They are close knit, fun loving, and just do their “thing”. Taking care of the team and what is best for it. What position do you play in Christ? I want to be an offensive lineman for Christ!

Kickoff

Kickoff!

Get Ready: 1 Corinthians 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Get Set: Lord help us to put you at the beginning of all that we do and say. That we will pursue you with pure passion and desire, to know you more, and to make you known. Give us
your plan to minister to our campuses and the souls that are there.
Coach: Kickoff… What is a kickoff? According to www.dictionary .com it is:theinitial stageof something;start; beginning. In football, it is a kick at the beginning of the first andthird quarters to begin play, and after team kicking scores.

How are you “kicking off” the school year intentionally for Christ. Are you a fan or a follower? In the book,Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman, he poses this question to challenge
the reader to examine whether we are just an “enthusiastic admirer” (fan) or a truly committed follower of Christ. As many of you know, Coach Mark Mariakis, RidgelandHigh in Walker County, is under persecution for running a Christian program. He is a real life example of a follower. Are you?

Many of you have been coaching and playing for many weeks now with softball, football, cross country, or other sports. It is not too late to kickoff for Christ? What does HE want you to do? Seek Him and His direction as to what He calls you to do. As you move closer to your kickoff, stop to pray, and make sure your plans line up with Hispurposes. “Then…….kick the laces off the ball!” Go Get’em for Jesus!
